Edelman Global Advisory names Joseph Damond as Senior Health Advisor

Tuesday, June 7, 2022 — WASHINGTON D.C. — Edelman Global Advisory (EGA) today announced that Joseph M. Damond will serve as EGA’s Senior Health Advisor.

Damond, has a long and notable career in international government relations, focusing on healthcare, trade and innovation issues. He will be an integral part of EGA’s advisory team, helping to counsel and guide clients through the healthcare industry around the world. This year, Washingtonian Magazine named Damond as one of the most “Influential People Shaping Policy.”

Before joining EGA, Damond served as Deputy Chief Policy Officer and Executive Vice President for International Affairs at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO). In that role he led BIO’s international affairs department and was responsible for formulating BIO’s global policy strategy, developing and implementing the industry association’s program of international advocacy on healthcare, economic and trade issues, and foreign government relations policy.

Before his work at BIO, Damond served as Vice President for International Government Relations for Pfizer where he managed and coordinated their international trade and commercial issues with the Administration, Congress, and foreign governments.  His accomplishments in that role include leading successful industry efforts for strong market access and intellectual property (IP) provisions in the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement. Before that, he also worked as Deputy Vice President for International Affairs at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), where he led Asia and global market access programs, as well as developed the industry’s successful strategy for market IP and access provisions in the U.S.-Australia Free Trade Agreement.

Damond began his distinguished career working for the Department of Commerce on bilateral and multilateral trade issues. He spent more than 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Asia and the Pacific. In that role, he served as a trade policy official and negotiator in several capacities, including Special Economic Assistant to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), Executive Director of the Generalized System of Preferences, and Deputy in the USTR’s Asia office. Chief accomplishments from his time in the trade office include serving as Chief Negotiator of the historic U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement from its inception in 1995 to its conclusion in 2000, concluding comprehensive bilateral trade agreements with Cambodia and Laos, and serving as the Chairman of the 21 country Committee on Trade and Investment for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
